I downloaded some videos with an .MKV format and I tried playing it with my DIVX player. The videos that I downloaded before with the same extension file are still working, but when I tried to open the new videos I get this error:
DivX Player: Audio Format Not Supported
You may need an additional audio decoder to play the soundtrack of this file.
This file contains a track in the DTS Audio (code *8193*) format. You may need to install a DirectShow decoder for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack of this file.Â
I tried searching for the DirectShow decoder and installing it. But even after installation it still gives me the same error. What can I do?

.MKV format won’t play on DiVX Player
Hello dear Robert,
The .MKV or matroska file formats are mainly for video files (movies, sample videos etc.), it works as an envelope which may contain several audios, videos and other media files together. Even it is possible to put an entire CD or DVD into an MKV file format. It is very much AVI and MOV formats and supports.
As you are having the problem you have mentioned above, you can try different media players to play the file for you. You can try Windows media player, VLC player, Media player classic, GOM player, Real player etc. to play the .MKV file. In case you do not have those players installed in your pc, here is the links:
Windows Media Player 12
Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1
VLC media player
This is one way you can get a solution to your problem. The another way is to install a codec pack for your pc to solve problems regarding difficulties of playing CD, DVD files (videos, audio’s) in your pc. K-lite codec and some other codec software are available to the problem. You first will have to install the codec pack in your pc, then start playing the video files. It will then be played by the media player of your pc as expected. You can download these software in the following links:
K-Lite Codec Pack 9.9.9 Full, Standard and Basic
Windows Essentials Media Codec Pack
Hope for the best. For any difficulties, please let us know again.
.MKV format won’t play on DiVX Player
Hello Robert,
To resolve that issue, you will need to try the following:
First of all install the DivX codec pack. It is required by the Windows Media Player and other video players to show video and output sound as well.
If you still get the error, you will need to download a filter from the following website: http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/, and see if that will resolve the issue.
Otherwise, you may try using an alternative media player if the one you have right now continues with the issues. Or you might do a reinstallation of it to remove any bugs it may be having.
Regards,
Carl
