Hi everyone,
Using a dell laptop that’s practically brand new and ever since the first week when I boot it up I get this on screen message:
MOM.EXE – Fatal error
CLR error: 80004005
The program will now terminate.
Â
I’m sure there no integrity violations because I ran a system file check.
I was thinking of running a recovery program but I am not sure whether it will solve the problem.
Thanks.
MOM EXE fatal error message
There is a particular program, a third-party software maybe that is installed in your operating system and automatically loads during startup. This program is not part of Windows’ system files.
Usually, like in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, laptops are sold without any installed operating system. It is only then after you bought it that the laptop will be installed with an operating system of your choice. I don’t know if most countries are like that. But, if that’s the case when you bought it, since you mentioned that it’s a brand new unit, the one who installed Windows XP on your laptop tried to installed additional program and didn’t check if it will run the next time the laptop boots.
I think here, the program that has the mom.exe file has totally crashed. Maybe due to the fact that the program is really not compatible with the operating system and installed it just to add additional item on the computer itself for the customer to see.
The file is physically in your computer because it loads and crashes. Remove it from startup so it will not load anymore during boot up.
-
In Windows Taskbar, click Start > Run.
-
In the dialog box, type msconfig then hit Enter.
-
When the System Configuration Utility window appears, click on Startup tab. Stretch the Command column so that all the texts in the command line are displayed. Find which line there loads the mom.exe. Uncheck it.
-
Click Apply then OK.
-
Reboot your computer.
The next time you boot your laptop, that dialog box will no longer appear.
