MS Office 2010: Excel Run Extremely Slow when Opening
To fix lagging issues on MS Office Applications (Excel, Word):
- Close the program
- Click on Start
- Choose Run
- Type regedit
- Hit OK

Locate and click on:
- For Office 2003 (HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0CommonOpen Find)
- For Office 2007 (HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0CommonOpen Find)
- Click on New from the Edit menu
- Choose DWORD Value
- Type EnableShellDataCaching
- Click on Modify
- Type 1 in the Value Data box
- Click OK
- Click Exit from the File menu to quit the Registry Editor

To fix slow Microsoft office applications, try the following approaches:
- Apply Microsoft hotfix as described in the following Microsoft article
- check off the following registry key:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice14.0ExcelOptions"
Look for a WORD value labeled DisableRobustifiedUNC set to a value of 1. If this is set on your machine, it's recommended you delete this value or set the DWORD value to 0.
- Download and install office 2012 file validation update from Microsoft
If the performance is still unsatisfactory, you could the following workarounds:
- Save the file locally on your computer and open it (if the file is stored on another networked pc)
- Upgrade to excel 2013 or downgrade to excel 2007
- Disable the OFV Add-in by using a registry setting
