Hi,
I'm looking at job listings for ASP.NET developer positions, and a large number of them want SharePoint experience. So I head off to Microsoft.com as well as Cdw.com, etc. to see if there is any way I can acquire the software. I'm confused, to say the least.
First of all, if I want to continue as an ASP.NET developer, is SharePoint something I really ought to have under my belt?
Second, how does purchase/licensing work? The items available for purchase on CDW are numerous, to say the last, ranging from very cheap to exorbitantly expensive.
What is the product that I want? Or is what I need more expensive than the typical individual person can afford?
Thanks.

Need MS SharePoint Software with Asp.Net
Yes, SharePoint is something you should really have under your belt. Mainly SharePoint allows easier, timely and effective documents management.
SharePoint organization enables individuals to easily manage their joint websites, allowing the sharing of information across boundaries with ease.
Purchase/Licensing works in a way where you have the full power of the software in order to make your product. You don't need the more expensive because the functionally of the product when purchased by a typical person that they can afford are the same.

Hi,
Yes SharePoint is very important. With share Point you can easily synchronize share and store your content. Basically it allows different people to work as a team without having the restriction to be under one roof. The software that you need can be downloaded from here. It is free to download as a trial but you will have to purchase it. Download SharePoint from this site
I hope this helped.

SharePoint is a document management program.
1. It allows web developers to store, sync and share at the same time with different users sitting on different locations.
2. It works not exactly but very much like Drop Box or Google Doc if you know.
Remember, the software that you download from the website is free and is only educational version to have a basic idea of software. Therefore, you need to practice more on full-fledged version for better performance.

Hi,
I definitely recommend starting learning SharePoint. There are out there a lot of high effective websites and intranet created using this technology (ex: Pepsi, Nintendo, Toshiba, MasterCard, Sprint, etc).
Microsoft make it easily for developers to start learning. You can search on msdn.microsoft.com for “SharePoint for developers”. Here you will find a bunch of useful resources.
Regarding the licensing, you can try and use SharePoint Foundation 2010-free trial. This is a best way to learn and practice what you’ve learned. (please also take in consideration to read the license agreements of that software)
Thank you,
Aabel
