I cannot seem to open any program on my Windows 10 laptop. Whenever I open something I get msvcp140 dll missing windows 10 and the program crashes. This is very frustrating. How do I remove this error once and for all? What is causing this error in the first place?

The error you are getting is related to msvp140.dll which is in turn related to the Microsoft Visual C++. Therefore, some problem in Visual C++ is causing this error. DLL errors are also caused by an incomplete installation of some software or missing/corrupt files.

To solve this problem, the first thing that you can do is uninstall the current installation of Visual C++ on your computer and reinstall a fresh installation on your computer. See if this solves the problem. If this does not help you, find the msvcp140.dll file on the internet and download this file. Place it in your Systems folder and restart your computer.

If you keep receiving an error related to “msvcp140.dll” saying the file is missing, try installing Microsoft Visual C++. Check out the following list and download the version for your operating system:

If this doesn’t work, try using the System File Checker utility to check your system. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows installation CD or DVD when you are prompted then continue. Wait until the process is complete. When it is finished, restart the computer.
