I am having a problem with my computer. Whenever I open a certain program, it will remain open for a few seconds and then close automatically.
To make sure that the program or application really opens, I open the task manager to check if the program if really opening. I saw the process appear and disappear. Is this caused by a Trojan or any kind or virus? I have really no idea what’s going on. Please help me about this. Thanks.

To make sure it is not caused by a certain malicious software, use a different Antivirus to scan your computer. You can use Microsoft Security Essentials that you can download directly to the Microsoft Download Center.
If no virus or any malicious software is found, then there are many possible reasons for this behavior. This can be caused by programming errors in games or applications. A Hardware driver related problem. Conflicting program application or bad installation, bad computer memory and the computer doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for the game or programs that you are running.
For program errors, make sure you have applied new patches or updated the program itself. If you already applied the patch and before this it was working perfectly, then the patch may be the reason. Check for any hardware updates like for the Video Card. If there are running applications that you are not using close it. Check also the system requirement, like the minimum RAM that it required. Checked if the CPU, hard drive etc. is over heating, this can also be the cause while programs, games automatically closing.
If none of these solutions work, then you need to conduct a system repair for your computer.
If still the same condition persists after the repair, then maybe you have a bad hardware component on your computer. Have it checked by professionals.

Hi Henry,
There are several reasons why this is happening to the program you are opening. It would also be helpful if you could tell us what program you are opening. Here are some of the things you can consider when this happens:
-
Reinstall the program. It may only due to a corrupt installation or something may have happened during the installation like an interruption, causing the program to not really fully install, as a result it doesn’t run properly.
-
If the program is a big program, it will use a lot of computer resources. If there isn't enough memory, this can cause the program to shut down or worse crash the computer. System Memory is required by programs as well as the computer to run properly which is why we buy RAM.
-
The same goes for heat. If the application is using large amounts of memory, then running it will cause an increase of temperature in the computer. Similar with cars, if you make it run fast, the engine will quickly heat up. If the temperature inside your CPU increases too much, your machine may not function properly, this includes shutting down of programs that are causing the increased temperature just like a car engine overheating and eventually breaking the cylinders or melting a gasket.
-
Check your computer is there is enough memory and disk space left. If not, delete some old files and so some maintenance on your computer. If there are old files that you don’t usually access but do not want to delete them, you can compress those files to free up some space.

Running a Full virus scan is also a good idea. Viruses and other malware are also known to cause these kinds of problems. These malicious software can alter programs or corrupt them making them not operate properly.
