My computer seems to have crashed, and I don’t know why.

This the status of my computer right now:

  • There are no icons appearing on my desktop.
  • When I look at “All Programs”, only Adobe is visible.
  • Task manager cannot be opened.
  • On right clicking the desktop, nothing happens.
  • Under “Program Manager” I can see some programs listed but cannot open them.
  • Internet explorer icon is not available

Hi Ch.Raghu,

Did you install any new software or hardware prior to this issue?

It really seems that your computer may have crashed or has been infected with a virus.

What you may need to do is to login to safe mode then try to do a virus scan. If your anti virus is unable to find any virus after its scan, try to see if you can have your files backed up first.

The next thing you may want to do is to do a system restore on your computer.

It will uninstall any new software and hardware you have installed but you may be able to bring it back to like by choosing a restore point prior to when the issue started.

Your computer might have crashed.

Do you remember any activity that you did on the computer before that problem started occurring?

What I will suggest that you do if the following:

  • Click Start on your computer and then click Shut Down.
  • In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, you will need to click Restart, and then click OK.
  • The computer will start rebooting; you will need to press F8 before windows launches.
  • You will need to use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER on your keyboard.

Once you have booted the system in safe mode as above you should try running system restore and see if you will recover your files.
