It looks like that your desktop may have some lose connections and you may have to do a tower tear-down to check them and see which of the hardware components might be the reason why your desktop is not responding and you still need to hit it just to power it on successfully. It could be because of the following:
Aside from those, other components like the mother supply, hard drive, and even RAMs might also cause the problem so it is best that you have these check by a local technician.
We somewhat have a similar problem but mine is with my monitor and not with the CPU. My monitor is quite old and I’m just being patient with it. There are times the color is like blinking. There are times it suddenly becomes extremely bright and then another instance it will become extremely dark and the image on the screen is no longer visible.
That’s why sometimes I also spank it on the side and sometimes under it. And after that it will display normal again but only temporary. In your case, I think it is with the cables inside your CPU.
The problem here is either with the hard drive’s power supply cable or its ribbon cable, only either of the two and nothing else. To check it, shutdown your computer then remove the CPU case. Check the cables attached to your hard drive. First, remove all the cables of the hard drive. Next, attach the power supply cable to the hard drive and make sure it fits perfectly.
Don’t connect the ribbon cable yet. After connecting the power supply cable, press on the power button of the CPU. Don’t worry this will not damage your hard drive.
The LED indicator of your hard drive should constantly flash. This indicates that the hard drive is initiating. When you successfully see a reaction on the LED indicator, turn it off again then connect the ribbon cable to the hard drive.
Make sure that it fits on the port properly. After that start your computer again.
There are many reasons behind this cause, like lack of patches, installation of unwanted programs, spyware, malware etc. Anyway, there are many ways to fix this issue. Also check out this Techyv post too regarding on this issue to get more idea to resolve this problem.Â
