My internet connection is not working perfectly

Hi. I use WiMAX connection in my home. For the last 2 days, my download speed isn't getting any higher than 6kbps, where i had used 50 kbps constantly with this line. Then when i connect the router into another pc, it works perfectly. What is wrong with my pc? What do i need to do?

Hello Mika29, WiMAX connection sometimes OK, sometimes not. As WiMAX modem relies on Internet signal called bandwidth. This provides high speed data used mostly for wireless and it uses microwave frequency. Most WiMAX connection can provide high speed Internet. Now, in your case your computer is slow but when you connect to a different computer, speed works fine. Here are possible problem; History, cookies, files, data form are cause of it and this normally slows down computer Internet speed and performance. Solutions 1; Optimized your browser by doing these steps; Go to Tools of your web browser, Click Internet Options and Click on Delete button. Check all the boxes or Delete All button to clear all the history saved. This will empty cache files in your browser for better Internet web performance. Solutions 2; Firewall has to be turned off for a while to check if the firewall is slowing down your Internet performance. Once identified that it's the caused of it, lower the settings to allow Internet traffic to pass by with out getting stock between modem and computer. Solution 3; Run a speedtest to check Internet speed and compare to the one you subscribed. Speed acceptable should not lower than 80% as your speed provision. ISP provider should be the last resource if speed is still slow, give them a call for possible Internet issue or a modem problem. Hope this help.

There are numbers of possible reasons why 1 PC is slow using the same connection, modem-router networking and the other computer is working just fine.
Here, identifying the main issue is crucial. We might miss-understand and blame directly our Internet Service Provider for getting this amount of speed instead of getting the provisioned Internet subscription.

On the affected computer, you must understand what is slow. The Internet when browsing or the application or software itself? The slow moving computer with constant time outs and or the non-responding browser?

These are the questions in mind that needs direct answers.

Slow browsing cause of browser cookies – This needs to optimized your browser. Clear out cookies, cached files, history, password, forms, data.
Go to Tools, Internet Options and browsing history then delete all. Uninstall and re-install your browser to get a better results.

Slow moving computer – This caused by virus infections, Trojan horses, adware, malware bites. You will noticed that the CPU usage reaches 100% capacity, an indication that there's something wrong. You need to have an updated Anti-virus software installed, scan your computer for possible Virus removal.

Possible CAT5 cord issue and Firewall – Sometimes, physical connection from computer to router is the problem. A busted and low quality of CAT5 or longer than what's require is the main problem. Use shorter CAT5 cord and try accessing your Internet. You may also disabled your firewall to check if this is the cause of it.
