My yahoo messenger is only displaying the messenger ID

My yahoo messenger is only displaying the messenger ID and not the nickname even though I rebooted and upgraded.

Please explain what the issue here is?

Hi Gsembran,

First, you need to go to your email page and on dropdown menu, click your ACCOUNT INFO and go to ACCOUNT SETTINGS. Then click MANAGE YAHOO ALIASES. Next is click add on alias then type your alias and click save.

On your yahoo messenger pane, click on CONTACTS and then add a contact and then add your aliases in yahoo messenger. You can also change current name or nickname on your contact details. In the top left corner of yahoo messenger window, click on MESSENGER >MY CONTACT DETAILS and change your name on the top box under nickname and then click Save.

May be that is happening because you have not added the contacts of the people that you are seeing the ID to you yahoo messenger contact list.

The following is the procedure to help you add a person when you know their ID;

• You will need to open the Yahoo! Messenger for the Web page.
• Once it has opened you will click the Add button which is under your Messenger List,
• And then you will select Yahoo! Contact or Windows Live Contact.
• You will then type the person’s ID, then press the Enter key.
• Enter their contact address and save the changes.

That way, you will have added the person's contacts.

Hello Gsembran, the issue with your Yahoo Messenger name display is because you have to change it.

This is a very easy step for you and it can be done in less than 3 minutes of your time.

Look for the button that says MESSENGER then click it go to MY CONTACT DETAILS you will see an option for you to change your Yahoo ID in the NICKNAME button.

Once you have finished putting in your desired messenger name, to be displayed for people to see you also when you go online, hit the SAVE AND CLOSE so it will store your data.

Check your messenger ID again this will fix the problem.
