I thought the problem was my hard drive but it still happens when i take it out. i hear a click sorta thing then it shuts off and turns on again

Hmm this may be a problem. My xbox did the same thing. Is the xbox ring that lights up green is it red?

I think what you need to do with your XBox 360 since it is exhibiting odd behaviors, is to do a little maintenance on its storage device. Many current generation game consoles, such as the XBox 360, are much more like computers than their predecessors. As such, their memory storage devices get cluttered, which is detrimental to performance. Try following the instructions below to do the maintenance.

  • Turn ON your XBox 360 then go to My XBox menu then System Settings then press  the A button.
  • Under System Settings, go to Memory then press A.
  • Select the storage device where you want to perform the maintenance and then press Y.
  • Scroll down to Clear System Cache. When you see the message "This will perform maintenance on your XBox 360 storage device. Do you want to continue?", select Yes then press A.
