An Netgear Wireless access point receives data by wired Ethernet, and converts to a 2.4Gig or 5Gig Hz wireless signal. It sends and receives wireless traffic to and from nearby wireless clients. It is different from the wireless router; it also doesn’t have firewall functions, it’s not capable of protecting the network from a harmful threat which comes from the internet.

It can be used in conjunction with a router to increase the coverage area.
