Networking of two laptops to share a printer

I have two laptops that I want to network so that they share a printer and I will be able to transfer from one to the other. What is the best way to network them? Should I use LAN networking or wireless?

Secondly, I am using Ubuntu as the Operating System, I don’t know whether to change it to Windows XP or Windows 7, I don’t know which of the two is good. I use the INET-FI on my laptop. Although I don’t want to, if I need to remove it what do I need to do?

To maximize your settings, I suggest that you buy a router that both supports Wireless and Wired connection. Then just follow the installation disk guide and you will have no problem. To access the advanced configuration of your router. Open a web browser ex. (IE, Firefox, Chrome) then type 192.168.0.1 on the address bar.

About changing operating system, You will need a CD but a genuine CD is preferred. I suggest that you buy an XP operating system because it is easier to network here and good for beginners. But Windows 7 is a good choice as well, interface and wizard guide wise you can easily network with this as well. XP nowadays is obsolete anyway so you might consider buying this one instead.

Make sure that your computer firewalls are turned off to make sure that they can connect to each other once you have set up anything. Then start sharing your files.

What you actually need to have this done is to use a crossover cable.

crimping the crossover cable that is lengthy enough to connect both laptops

If you are familiar with crimping Ethernet cables, then this won't be so much of a problem to achieve. After successfully crimping the crossover cable that is lengthy enough to connect both laptops, configure each laptop’s IP address as follows;

Laptop A

IP Address: 192.168.0.1

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

configure each laptop’s IP address

Laptop B

IP Address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.0.1

The rest (DNS) server’s aren’t all that useful unless you want to connect to the internet. The next thing is to install the printer as a local printer on laptop A and share it. Then Add the printer, as a network printer on laptop B.

Windows Firewall

Lastly, make sure that you turn off the firewall from both laptops, and you are done.

Hello Dear,

This is very easy to use network in two laptops. Dear for this you have to use a cross cable.

Just connect your cross cable with your both laptops and apply IP Address to both Laptops. It is a very simple way to make such connection. Make sure that you have turned on the firewall. A firewall is must in networking.

I hope you will understand it.

Thanks.
