Yes it is a part of Sandy Bridge family however as compared to sandy bridge arquitectura Ivy Bridge has a 22 nano meter die as opposed to a 32 nano meter die in Sandy Bridge, the advantages of a smaller die has been noticed before as well. The smaller the die is, the better the processor will perform because of lesser electricity leakages and more importantly, you can fill in more transistors compared to bigger die processors.

It is expected to be a lot faster than the existing Sandy Bridge processors, Ivy Bridge isn't released officially hence it is difficult to measure how fast it is gonna be, however I found a resource on the internet it is not official hence I can't guarantee you the credibility of the source, here goes the link http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Benchmarks-Intel-Ivy-Bridge-CPU-sandy-bridge,14144.html Tom's hardware has been a good source, hence the results will be as accurate as possible. One thing I can guarantee is you that it is will very faster because of the increase of computing power on the processor.
