My old laptop is running with Windows XP 32 bit and does not have a Safely Remove Hardware button on the taskbar. Ever since I got my laptop, that button was already not appearing when I plug external drives. I only use the eject option on my computer when ejecting them. But I do wonder why I don't have one and how can I put or install that button?
No Safely Remove Hardware Button
Hi Frank,
As I understand your issue here, its about an item in your task bar that was missing, and its the Safely Remove Hardware icon, let us first analyzed what might be the cases that hinders it to appear:
– Have a check your computer for some viruses
– Have a check your taskbar properties, if its been disabled there.
– Try reformat your system.
If you have tried all of the mentioned possibilities above, and yet the Safely Remove Hardware icon is still missing, so lets better create a shortcut of it, in your desktop by means of right click, create shortcut, please see below specification of your shortcut icon:
Location: %windir%system32RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
Name: Safely Remove USB Device
Change Icon:
Look for Icons here:
C:WINDOWSsystem32shell32.dll
I hope this will help you.

Hello Dear,
Don’t panic, this is not a big problem at all. As previous suggestion is not working, then follow the steps.
1. Right click on the my computer icon and go for the manage option, computer management option will be opened
2. Now from the tree list options, select storage and expand it
3. Now select Removable storage and go for its properties
4. There are two options at the end of the window.
5. Check both of them.
6. Now apply this settings and close all windows
Hope this problem will not bother you.
