Hey, the western digital wd400 jumper settings is supported in many OS also in the windows or in the Mac as well. The supported OS in windows are in Windows 7 , windows 2000 , windows Vista and also in the windows Xp too. The component for the jumper setting is:

  • First is the single where the HDD is interfaced with the IDE cable.
  • Next is the Master/Slave where the HDD can be a Master or a Slave.
  • Lastly there’s Cable Select, it is used for the jumper settings for the HDD systems and can be factory set for the cable select as well.

The jumper settings for hard drives apply only to IDE hard drives. SATA drives don’t require jumper settings. You can just plug them directly as long as there is an available SATA port. With IDE drives, setting the jumper is a must because it will not work or sometimes malfunction if the correct jumper setting is not set. The correct jumper setting can be found on the drive itself.

It is printed on the sticker on top of the drive that’s why it is very easy to configure the drive. If you want to install an operating system on the drive, it must be set to “Master” else you can set it to “Slave” if you only want to put data. An IDE drive has four jumper settings: master, slave, cable select, and park.

“Cable Select” applies only to ribbon cables that support two drives.
