Hi,

I was upgrading Skype on my laptop but failed when I got an error stating that the old version cannot be removed.

I tried reinstalling Skype instead but it also failed and got the same error message.

Any advice on what to do next?  Please help.

If you are having a problem upgrading the application, it is because the previous version that is currently installed encountered a problem while it was being removed for upgrading.

Just like the error that appeared during the upgrading procedure. If you have a disk utility application installed on your computer, run it and check your hard drive for errors. Any errors in its file structures can prevent any task from finishing successfully.

Or just use Windows disk check to diagnose your hard disk.

  1. Right click on drive C and then select Properties.
  2. Click Tools tab.
  3. Click Check Now.
  4. Check Automatically fix file system errors and then hit Start.

After the disk check, try to uninstall Skype from your computer using the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

After it was successfully removed, begin the installation for the new version of Skype.

Hallo Judee,

You are trying to install the latest version of Skype while the old version is still on the computer.

Though sometimes it works, but in your case it seems that it is bringing a problem.

So I will advice that you go to the control panel and look for Skype in the program features under add/remove programs and uninstall it.

Also go to the programs files under C: and clear all Skype files and registries that may be remaining there.

Thereafter, get the new skype installation and run it on your computer. It should work well now that you have removed the old version from the system.
