Hello,

I installed Windows Media Player 12.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have noticed that it always opens in library no matter what I do. I would like it to open in "Now playing". Are there some settings that make make it behave the way it does? What should I do?

You have a wmplayer.exe shortcut on your desktop, right click it

Select the Shortcut tab

You will see the Target of the shortcut

Place your cursor after the ….exe" and type

/prefetch:1 /Task NowPlaying

(There is a space between the exe" and /prefetch and inbetween prefetch:1 and /task)

Click OK

Click the shortcut and watch it open in the correct window.

Hi!

Here is the reason why Windows Media Player always open the Library instead Now Playing mode.

You may had think that the player itself is the problem. But, it is actually Windows Media Player's shortcut.

Every time you click on Windows Media Player shortcut, this windows will pop out.

Now, you should right click on the shortcut. You'll see the combination code. At the end of the code is Task prefetch:1 sentence.

Then, you should change that last part with Task NowPlaying sentence.

Finally, you will be able open Windows Media Player in Now Playing mode.

Hope this solution will help you.

I've a solution to this problem, just follow these following steps as detailed below:

  1. Open your Windows Media Player 12.0 on your computer having Windows 7.
  2. It opens the media file in the Library window instead of  "Now Playing" window that's the problem you discuss in your question.
  3. To resolve this problem, just uses your keyboard and type the following key Ctrl+3.
  4. The following steps will resolve your problem and switch your Library window to "Now Playing" window.

In other case if you want to use your mouse to resolve this problem then follow these steps.

  1. Open Windows Media Player 12.0 on your PC having Windows 7.
  2. It opens the Library window instead of Now Playing as a problem that you questioned.
  3. To resolve this problem, just move your mouse and go to the right bottom icon and click on it.
  4. These steps resolve the problem and you can open your Windows Media Player 12.0 in Now Playing window instead of the Library window.
