Hi there,

I have a situation about PeerGuardian and need help. When I am browsing the internet, an error message is appeared with PG and said that the packet filtering driver could not be loaded.

I have tried to remove and reinstall PG but the problem still exists. This error never occurs. And I am looking forward to your reply and thanks in advance.

‘ERROR MESSAGE’
PeerGuardian is unable to load the packet filtering driver.
This could happen if PeerGuardian crashed and didn’t have a chance to unload the driver, or if the file pgfilter.sys can’t be found.
If PeerGuardian crashed, please run “Recover PeerGuardian” from the start menu to attempt to recover from the problem.

Hi Judith.

This error message could mean different things.

1. First, completely shut down the computer by removing the power cord from surge protector or at the back of the computer. Next, press the power button, hold for six seconds and then release.  Capacitors in the computer will be then discharged.  Power up again and see whether the same error occurs.

2. Alternatively, clean up the registry of the computer.  Although PG is uninstalled but some related folders and files from registry and hard disk are left.  Follow these. Click Start and then Run, type in regedit.  Registry Editor window will appear, choose Edit and then Find and find any PG related files and folders and delete those. Then reinstall PG.

Hope this helps.

Hello Judith,

The error that you are getting has to do with the Driver Signature Enforcement Policy, for Windows 7 requires digitally signed drivers. To resolve that issue, you can use one for the two options:

  • On your computer, you can press F8 – note you will have to do this every time you want to run PG 2 –  before windows 7 boots and after that choose Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

The next workaround will be the following:

  • First, you will need to turn off User Account Control, and then restart the computer.
  • After that you will download DSEO 1.2, and then patch C:Program FilesPeerGuardian2pgfilter.sys with the tool > set the system to test mode, with the tool.
  • After that reboot the computer.

Regards,

Carl

Hello Judith,

This peerGuardian was first introduced in windows vista. It’s usually used as a security purpose. But because of virus it shows unusual behavior sometimes.  For this it is better if you install the whole windows as fresh. Other than if you don’t want to bother for that then, just uninstall the peerfuardian RC1. If that is version 1 than switch to version 2, now download and install readydriver and install peerguard again. Lunch the peerguardian and update it.

This can be a solution to it.

But I prefer a new installation of window.

Thank you,

Riley weaver.

Currently, PeerGuardian is no longer being developed and they are no longer providing the download. Clicking the “Download” button downloads a readme file instead of the program. Though you can still download older versions, I’m not sure if they will still work. For more information, go to PeerGuardian home page. For users who are still looking for PeerGuardian, you need to shift to PeerBlock.

Click the link to download the latest version. PeerBlock is the continuation of the development on PeerGuardian in Microsoft Windows. PeerBlock supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. PeerBlock allows you to control or manage who your computer “talks to” on the internet.
