Hello! I just started using Playstation 4 and from day one I have had issues related to connectivity. Whenever I try to connect to PlayStation Network for any update, the connection fails and it says "An error has occurred". I waited for a few days and did not connect to PlayStation Network hoping that next time I try it would connect but still it gives error. What should I do?

If you want to connect your PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation Network to check for updates, make sure you have a working internet connection. Try doing these. Close the application and then install the latest game and system software update. Next, restart the system. In case your PlayStation Camera is currently connected to the system, remove or disconnect it then restart the system.

After that, go to Settings, User, Login Settings, and then turn off or deactivate Enable Face Recognition. If you upgraded the hard disk drive or the hard drive on your PlayStation console, you need to reinstall the original hard disk drive. If the issue continues, backup your saved data then go to Settings, Initialization, and then select Initialize PS4.

If you still can’t connect to the PlayStation Network, try testing the internet connection with your PS4. In your PlayStation 4 console, go to Network and then select Test Internet Connection. You can also visit PlayStation Network Status with your web browser to check the status of the PlayStation Network. See image.

If you still can’t connect, the following port numbers are used to connect to the PlayStation Network servers using the internet:

  • TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
  • UDP: 3478, 3479

Well Sony has confirmed this problem and there are some solutions to this problem but the best solution is that you should go to the PlayStation site or blog download update file and store it onto a portable data carrier like USB and then plug it in to your PlayStation and install it, but remember to read instructions about installing update manually by any portable media.
