Porvide high security without using a proxy
Hello Georgia.
Bluecoat proxy is an Internet proxy appliance. Although it is very robust, it can be quite pricey. Here are a couple of software alternatives that are free. All you need is to provide the hardware which, depending on how many computers you want to protect, can be anything from an old Pentium PC to a high-end server.
1. pfSense. This is a customized installation of FreeBSD that has been optimized for use as a router and firewall. Check out all its features here:
2. SmoothWall Express. SmoothWall Express is similar to pfSense except it is based on GNU/Linux instead of FreeBSD. Like pfSense it is full-featured, robust and best of all free. http://www.smoothwall.org/
3. IPCop. IPCop is also based on Linux. It is more suited for home and small office users. http://www.ipcop.org/
4. m0n0wall. m0n0wall is also based on FreeBSD. https://m0n0.ch/wall/
You saved me a lot of money, Sollis Parallag . Thank you very much. I am currently using pfSense and thought it can't be compared with other pricey softwares, it works very great!
