I badly need help regarding my Sony blu-ray burner. When I purchased it, I had no problem burning discs that are 25 GB and 50 GB.  However, a few months later, I could not burn discs that are 50 GB.

I tried reinstalling it on my computer but nothing happened.  I also tried updating my firmware but still, no such luck.  Please help.

Hello there! What you can do is to try burning the disc by using a different software. Through this, you can check if the culprit is the hardware or the software you were using. If you were able to burn the disc, then it is the software you were using.

If you experienced the same issue, then it is the hardware. And since you already tried the uninstall and reinstall trick with your software and even update the firmware, it is very possible that the hardware is faulty.

Try calling up Sony and see what they can do for you. If they give you a replacement, try burning it again.

The usual problem with optical drives is the lens. When your optical drive starts to stop reading discs or you cannot burn discs, the usual cause is a dirty lens. If you frequently burn discs, your lens will also get dirty faster. When your optical drive begins to have a hard time reading discs, it means it is time to clean the lens.

To clean the lens, you can use a lens cleaner from a DVD player. You can also buy it from your local computer store or online. Just follow the instructions on the cleaner when cleaning the lens. This should fix the problem. Also, try using a different CD burning software like ImgBurn.
