I am using SONY VAIO Laptop, I want to change my OS from Windows7 to Windows 8 .

I have a windows 8 DVD of size 4.3 GB and I have a 4GB Pen drive, my DVD Drive is not working and the Pen drive is not enough.

So is there any way to compress the OS DVD further or any upgradation from 7 to 8 possible?

Please help me out.

Hi there ,

There is no way to compress and use the Windows 8 files from a pen drive at boot up .

I wonder how windows 8 setup goes more than 4 GB . I too have it installed in my PC . The developers preview and also now the consumers preview.

It was just 2.8 GB  , the Setup and never more that 3 GB .

Without using the boot options you can install it directly from your Windows 7 OS.

1. Double click the Windows 8 setup file

2. Now follow  the steps.

3. Click advanced if you don't want to remove your current windows 7.

Please try downloading the correct windows 8 from the Microsoft website.

Hi Mason,

Yes, there is another way. Do you have any external DVD ROM?

If you have, then connect it with your laptop using SATA or IDE USB converter. Then go to the boot option and select your external Rom as first boot device. Then insert your windows 8 into the Rom and install it.

Thanks.
