There is a “send email” option in Windows 7 applications which I would like to utilize. However, I am using Gmail which is not supported by Windows. Would you know of an application or plug-in I can install to allow me to use the “send email” option for Gmail?

I don't know where you got the idea, Gmail is fully supported by Windows 7.
Make use of a application called Gmail for windows 7 to use it. It has the features of Gmail plus the features of Windows 7 such as jump list and icon overview.
This application is unique. It is a freeware developed by an individual.
Here is a link to more information about it and the download link.

Hi,
You can use Microsoft Outlook or other mail applications like Thunderbird in your computer. These applications are supported by Windows 7 and you can configure these applications to retrieve your Gmail emails using IMAP or POP and have the emails sent to your computer.
Once you have these installed and configured, you will be able to use the Send Mail option. When you click on it, it will open up your mail application, for instance Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird, and it will open a window that would look the same as the one the comes up when create a new message in your email application.
Thank you. Hope it helps.
