The recent news of the Home depot systems being breached has been the latest with respect to attack on major retailers and in line with the attack on Target last year. As customers using credit cards at local stores for over the counter purchases what is the recourse available for us to protect our credit card data from being stolen?

Protect your credit card data from being stolen

To protect your credit card at your local stores when doing shopping, use chip enabled cards and take receipt after the transaction has completed. So, it is better to do shopping at retailers having EMV-capable terminals. Its safe to keep track of all purchases and check the statements. Do not share personal information like name, pin number etc. Use strong and complex passwords which are difficult to guess.
