PS3 does not recognise external drive

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with my Western Digital external drive. My PS3 didn’t recognizing it. I try on both Mac and Windows and its working perfectly. I am previously using WD with my PS3 to back it up but not now. Am i missing something? Please help.

PS3 does not recognise external drive

 

Hey there,

 First of all let’s make sure that the hard drive itself is no defective. First do a scan disk on it you can do that by plugging in your external hard drive and if it is successfully detected by your computer then you can do a complete diagnosis on it. Open up My Computer in Windows and right-click your external dive and select Properties. On the Tools tab click Check Now on the Error Checking then click Start on the next dialog box. Now let it run for a few minutes and wait for it to finish. 

If the disk checks out without any problems, you can safely say that the problem might be on the connector on your PS3. To fix a connector related problem you would have to take your unit to a service center to have it repaired.

PS3 does not recognise external drive

Its look like you have no drive letter for you drive and that's why it is not working on PS3. You can select the drive letter and it will work perfectly. You can go to desktop and then right click on my computer and then choose the manage and then you will be able to change the drive letter under disk management. Where you will see the partitions and then you need to specify the disk letter and it will work fine.

The second reason for this problem is that you have some virus in your PS3 that is causing this problem in this case you need to run a full virus scan to you computer and it will work fine. Check for any disk error and make sure that your disk is working properly. I hope you will be able to solve your problem.

PS3 does not recognise external drive

Great help Techyv Team. I had no idea what causing my PS3 to not recognize my western digital external drive until i read the solutions that you gave. It works perfectly now. Thank you.
