The only thing that I know about RAM and ROM are their differences. RAM stands for Random Access Memory and ROM stands for Read Only Memory. I would like to know about their functions separately on the computer system. Whose size affects the speed of computer? Which is more expensive? Similarly, does the damage of RAM causes the computer to start not or frequently makes the computer to restart.

Random Access Momory and Read Only Memory

Hi,
RAM is Random Access Memory used to store temporary information as it is volatile memory. The RAM is randomly access at any time and can be read and write. The speed is faster. RAM required power to store the information. RAM is chip which is in rectangle form and inserted over the motherboard. The cost is comparatively high. There are two types of RAM Static RAM (SRAM) and Dynamic RAM (DRAM).
ROM is Read Only Memory used to store permanent information as it is non volatile memory. The ROM is not directly access by the processor, first ROM information transferred into RAM and then access by the processor. The information is only can be read not write or user can not changed it. ROM is optical drivers made up of magnetic tapes. The cost is comparatively low. There are Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM), Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM) and Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) available.
