I have heard many wonderful things about the Raspberry Pi, and I was wondering if it could be used in an office setting. We have a very old (very, very old) computer that we use only to write up invoices with Excel and a very short letter with Word. Could we replace it with a Raspberry Pi? Will it be able to perform these tasks consistently?
Raspberry Pi in an office setting
If you are thinking of using Raspberry Pi in an office such as yours, I don’t think that’s possible. The main purpose why Raspberry Pi was developed was to promote basic computer science in schools. The Raspberry Pi is only the size of an ordinary credit card with a single-board computer.
It was originally designed with 256 MB RAM and was later upgraded to 512 MB. But even if it is upgraded, you will probably have a hard time using it on Microsoft Word because the RAM is still very small. This is not intended for production environment such as in an office because it has a very low performance.
