I had a recent upgrade of my MAC machine. I have it upgraded to Snow leopard OS X 10.6. I am trying to connect to the Server admin after the upgrade and receive an error message.
I usually manage most of the machines with the Admin server help, and now I am not able to do the basic connection.
Received an unexpected authentication failure.
This may be caused by trying to connect to a server prior to version 10.5.8 If this is the case, please install the latest update of Mac OS X Server software on ‘server2.local.’ and try to connect again.
Any help is appreciated.

Hello Michael,
As per the instructions from the message, go ahead and update your Mac OS X Server so you could use Mac OS X Snow Leopard admin tool. I believe it will work.
But in case it doesn't work, try this one too.
Use a virtual machine for Mac. I would recommend VirtualBox because it is free and it works. Install Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) or Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) in VirtualBox and run Server admin there, while still having Mac OS X Snow Leopard as your main OS. VirtualBox 3.2.0 already has a support for Mac OS X.
Received an unexpected authentication failure.
You have many Solution and it is up to you to choose one of them:
1- You may need to roll back to your Mac OS X client version.
2- You may need to install several versions of Mac OS X and also server admin tools so you need to have a virtual machine ( VM).
3- You may need to have VCN or ARD or using software for screen sharing so you can directly manage server box of your Mac OS X and also on your target server you have ability to use the admin server tools.
4- You may need to install Snow leopard server.
So you can choose one of these solutions like i said it's up to you so i hope these solutions help you
