Hello! I just replaced my video card and now my monitor is acting up.  I have tried removing and replacing the video card, but I am still experiencing the same issue.  Is it possible I have a bad video card?  Is there anything I can try to troubleshoot?  Thank you.

Below are some steps to follow to test your Graphics Card.

  1. Get the latest drivers for your chipset by going to the manufacturer of your chipset’s website and searching for a driver update.
  1. Get the latest display driver – but first you must uninstall your old driver by going to “Add/Remove Programs” and uninstalling it from there.  Download the new driver and install it by following the setup provided from the download.

  1. Perform a RAM test on your PC to rule out that your PC’s memory isn’t causing an error which will affect your video card.  If you can run this test without any errors, then your RAM is probably not the cause.
  1. Check to make sure your power supply isn’t faulty as your video card can get damaged if there isn’t enough or if there is too much voltage to the PC.
  2. Reseat the video card if it’s not an on-board video card.  Also check that it’s not too loose in the correct slot assigned to it.
  3. Run the Windows Aero Troubleshooter which you can download from here.  Just run the file from the File Download box that opens up and follow the onscreen wizard to run the troubleshooter.
