I am currently selling my old android phone. It is a nexus 4 phone with android 5.0.1 lollipop on-board. I am doing a factory reset on the phone so as to erase all the data. I read online that a factory reset is not enough as data can still be extracted. Can anyone help me to clean the mobile completely?

Well, if you're using android 'reset factory data' is enough to remove all data from your device. Using this method will automatically wipe everything you've stored in your phone, but if you want extra safety, encrypt your phone (this option is mostly in 'Setting' under 'Security') before wiping it can provide some comfort.

That’s right. Doing a factory reset on your Android Smartphone is already enough to delete your files. Aside from your files, it will also delete all the apps you have installed on your phone and will retain the ones that are default to the phone or the applications that come preinstalled with the handset.

Since you are about to sell your phone, I guess you no longer need to back it up. To begin the factory reset, go to Settings and then tap “Backup & reset” under Personal section. In “Personal data” section, tap “Factory data reset” then read the information on the screen.

Once you are finished, tap “Reset phone” and then select “Erase everything” to delete all the data in your internal storage. When the process is complete, select the option to restart your Smartphone. After that, your phone is back to its original state when you first bought it. Before handing it over to the new owner, make sure all passwords have been removed including the pattern security.
