I agree with you that SEO is very popular job among freelancers. Amount of money that can be earned by doing SEO can vary dramatically. Price usually depends on many different factors like: time needed to get the job done, difficulty of the job itself, resources needed for the job, level of skill needed for the job etc.

For simple web research jobs a freelancer can earn $5-$20, for an average SEO campaign freelancer can earn $50-$150, but for some more advanced jobs pay is much higher. Best sites for freelancing are Guru.com, Elance.com and Odesk.com.
