So here, the intent of my question is:

I have a home Internet connection using a modem ISP. I share with my friends, my boarding house.

So this model; Modem -> Switch hub -> Computer.

Well, what I want to ask is: Can we share more of a hub switch to hub switch again? To be a model like this: Modem -> Switch hub -> Switch hub -> Computer.

Can it be possible?

Dear Davis21,

Yes, it can be done by this network setup.

DSL Modem => Connect to switch hub 1 uplink => Other ports for PC's one available ports to switch hub 2 uplink => PC1 -and so on.

First you will need this DSL modem from your internet service, two switch hub (each one having 16 ports) Ethernet cable cat5.

Then place the DSL modem and connect the cat5 Ethernet cable, provided by the internet service provider, to the uplink port of the switch hub 1 and then the ports available, 1-15 is for the PC's.

Leave extra number 16 port, for another switch hub 2; then connect the cat5 Ethernet cable from 16 port to the uplink of switch hub 2, then the port available 1-16 is for PC's.

You need to connect a shared internet connection. Now each PC needs to be setup and configured properly, so this is how we do it.

  • First click "Start".
  • Go to Control Panel.
  • Double click on "System".
  • Then "System Properties" will popup and click "Computer Name".
  • Then click "Network ID" button.
  • Then click "Next" and.
  • Select "This computer is part of a business network, and I use it to connect to other computers at work."
  • Click "Next".
  • Now select the wording "My company uses a network without a domain".
  • "Click "Next" and now enters the name of your "Workgroup".

This name will be applied to all PC's, it must be the same name of the workgroup;

  • Then click "Next".
  • Click "Finish".

Now the network setup is complete.

Now open the internet browser to check if internet is shared on each PC.

Hello there!

Yes, it is possible to connect your internet modem to your and your friends' computer, connecting to two hubs.

You can also use (as an option), a router. A router is a much more reliable network device than a hub. This is still the same size as a hub and can be used to connect multiple computers.

Its different from hubs since routers are able to serve as intermediate destination, to lessen network traffic. Routers are also able to connect LAN to WAN. So all computers would just be connected, to the router (instead of having one computer to connect to the internet and share that, to all the computers connecting to it through hubs) and be able to connect to the internet equally.

Hi good day,

Your question is can we share more of a hub switch to hub switch again? Likes MODEM >> SWITCH HUB >> SWITCH HUB >> COMPUTER. Yes you can use it switch hub to another switch hub to the computer.

Make sure the color coding of the UTP wire connector is uniform, and the computer WORKGROUP IS UNIFORM also.

Thank you, hope its help
