Hello, I repair laptops and I have one ready to ship to my brother. Â However, I am reading and finding conflicting information on shipping lithium ion batteries. Â I am hearing that one battery does not require special labeling but then I am also hearing you should always label even if one battery. Â Does anyone have any suggestions on shipping laptops with lithium ion batteries?
Shipping lithium ion batteries question
I think what you are saying about proper labeling of lithium ion batteries when shipping only applies to lithium batteries when they are shipped alone. But if the lithium battery is shipped as packed with equipment, like in your case it is the battery of the laptop, this lithium battery shipping regulation does not apply.
Unless you will be shipping the laptop and the lithium battery as separate cargos then you should follow the shipping regulations. Since January 1, 2015, lithium metal batteries that are transported to cargo aircraft as cargo are restricted. But this only applies to lithium metal batteries when they are shipped alone.
