Skype has an automatic update feature that allows the users to simply click on the button to perform the necessary updates. However, there are times that such feature does not work and may give an error message.
Error 1603 means that the previous version was not successfully removed, thus the upgrade cannot proceed.
This usually happens when the upgrade did not find the PluginManager.msi file on your computer that is necessary to perform the necessary changes. Microsoft has acquired Skype, making it one of the instant messaging services available in the market. The application allows its users to call any landlines or mobile numbers anywhere in the world for a very affordable price.

Hi,
You have corrupt registry files in your computer. First you need to clear corrupted registry files from your computer.
Please do the following steps
1. Download a program called CCleaner
2. Install the CCleaner program
3. Then run the program
4. Then click on “scan for issues” (this step will resolve your corrupted registry files)
Then open the Skype & run the update again

Solution to Error 1603 on Skype
Hi bernard Fleck
There is a tricky way to solve this sort of problem. I hope so it’ll resolve your problem.
Follow the steps given below
1. Go to the Skype directory e.g., (C:\Program Files\Skype\)
2. There will be many folders, which depends on how many older versions you have installed previously with the combination of letters and numbers.
3. Chose one of them where the error message is referring to.
4. After entering on that folder you’ll find a file <.msi> “in my directory it is skype.msi” just rename it and try to update it again.
The problem is that Skype Update installation will not be able to find that file and it’ll use another as long as with the same name.
