Hello Jeffery,
You can easily play any DAT file on Mac PC. To play a DAT or any other extension media file you can use VLAN player. This player supports almost every format. You can download it from the www.videolan.org.
A wide range of converter are available to convert any DAT file on Mac. You can try the demo versions of those software. It they server your need than purchase the premium version.

DAT files (.dat), normally, are a generic name given to a proprietary file format. It is basically used only by the program it was created for. On the other hand, on Macintosh, you can use the “file” command to try to identify and see if anything else might be able to open it.
You can also use the “xxd” command to initiate a hexdump on the file and see if you can identify anything in the file. This is for advanced users I guess. Also, since it is a DAT file, you can try opening it with a media player to see if it is a video file.
The video files on a standard VCD uses the “.dat” extension. Try downloading VLC for macOS and install. Once installed, try loading the DAT file you found on your computer to see if it plays. If the file successfully played on VLC then it means the file is a standard MPEG video file.
