A client of ours sends us a backup of their database in MSSQL 2008 R2.
We have to extract some data from that backup, but we don't have MSSQL.
Does a "SQL backup viewer" sort of program exists that can view the data without the need of MSSQL installed?
SQL server 2008 R2 backup viewer
Hi,
I will help you to solve your problem. Unfortunately, there is no backup viewer to view the backup file created in SQLServer.
You have to install MS SQLServer in order to view it. Download it from Microsoft website and install.
Restore the database and you can view it.
You can use SQL Express too.

Hi Jack,
You can retrieve your back up easily if you have SQL server installed on your computer. If you don’t have it installed you can use a software called ‘SQL BAK Reader’. With this software you will get all the details of the backup file. You don’t need a SQL instance to view the file.
This software is very useful in your case as you don’t have server installed. There is another tool from DELL which is NETVAULT LITE SPEED, that also have the same features.
You can get all the details from this software too.
You can get it from dell’s website.
Thanks!
