Startup disk full message while trying to trim the video

Hi,

I am using an Apple computer with OS X version 10.9.3. I have a few .mov files on my pen drive (32GB with most of it is empty) and I wanted to trim them using the Quick Time player. When I am opening those files Quick Time player is taking a long time and then roaring out saying Startup disk full. I am not sure whether this is an issue with the Quick Time player or the pen drive. However, Pen drive is having lots of space in it. Please let me know how can I overcome this issue.

From the given info, I need to know if your computer is newly installed or not?, if not, then the solution for this is simply to free some disk space inside your Apple computer and  delete obsolete files or trim them and leave those what you really need to.

From time to time you're accumulating small files without noticing that  your start up disk is filling up.
