I need to customize my desktop on Ubuntu with new themes. Can you please explain me step by step ; how to customize desktop in different ways ?

Steps to Customize Desktop on Ubuntu…

Can you please give me your Ubuntu version so that I can provide you more specific information. Here is a step by step process to install a new Ubuntu 11.10 theme .

Step 1:
Go to your home directory and create a new folder. Rename it as .themes, now click on Ctrl+h to view the directory as folder names starting with dot(.) are considered as hidden files in Ubuntu.

Step 2:
Download a theme from the link ( http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Environment/Themes/ )
Extract the files into the .themes folder.

Step 3:
In the Unity panel click on Ubuntu logo and search for Ubuntu Tweak Tool.

Step 4:
Select theme in the left side menu. Select the extracted theme name in the select list corresponding to GTK+theme and Window theme.

Its all done! You need to restart your PC in order to finish the installation process and enjoy the new theme.
