Suggest Software Design for MacBook

I have MacBook Pro here with specs 2.2 GHz 13". I am aware of Adobe Creative Suite as a good program for design.However, I would prefer software that is cheaper. Anybody can suggest some sofwaredesign suitable for the specs of my MBP?

If not we'll i will save you for all the hassle. You may need to read the article about top 10 alternative CS program which are open source and some of them are not even cheaper because they are actually free.
