Hi,
I have a total of 4GB or 4 Gigabytes of memory installed in my computer but when I check my System Properties it is only showing 2GB of memory or RAM. I am using Windows XP Operating System. Is there something wrong with one of the memory installed in my computer? Here is the image below:

System Properties only shows 2GB memory
Hi,
Your windows can not detect your 2 gb memory. There are many reasons for it. Uninstall the windows and then reinstall it will be helpful. At the time of reinstall windows will check computers hardware and detect 4 gb of your memory.
The other thing is it may be a hardware problem. May be you are using 2gb and 2gb memory in total 4 gb. But one of your memories is not properly pleased in the slot or it is not connected at all. Also may be one of your 2gb memory is burned or damaged so it is not working. In this case take the pc to service center.

System Properties only shows 2GB memory
Hi Dear,Â
Â
This problem I faced many times. Actually this problem happens only if RAM not matches with the Motherboard. I think you are using 2 PCs RAM each 2 GB. I think in this 2 RAM one is not supporting from your Motherboard.

So please Shutdown your computer then open computer case and remove one RAM and then start your computer. If computer start then this RAM is ok. Then again shutdown your computer then removes that RAM and attach another one. Then again start your computer. I am sure that now your computer will not start. Hope now you understand that what you want to do for solve your problem.

Yes, I think there is something wrong with one of the RAM sticks you have installed on your motherboard. Even if you are using Windows XP 32-bit operating system, it should still report something like 3.75GB of RAM.
Please verify through your BIOS whether 4GB of memory is being detected. Restart your computer and press "DEL" or whatever key combination is need to enter the BIOS. Your motherboard or PC manual can better explain in detail how to see the amount of installed RAM. If only 2GB out of 4GB is being detected, switch off and unplug the CPU and remove both RAM modules.
Clean the contacts of each with a pencil eraser and reinsert afterwards. If the BIOS still does not detect 4GB of RAM, then you have to switch the RAM modules around to determine whether the memory slot is the problem or the RAM module itself. Hope this helps!
