Is there any different between BIOS and CMOS?
Hi user,
To put it simply BIOS is software while CMOS is hardware. BIOS is the information contained in a computer's ROM that is used to boot a computer. It checks if there is any devices connected to the computer and load the drivers for them.
They also contain information on what order to boot devices. They have the settings assigned by the user stored in them that rules the way they boot.
CMOS is a round silver coin that is embedded on the motherboard. It is like a mini clock, by which the computer keep track of the time. It also stores some hardware settings.
It is called a CMOS battery as it has tiny amount power to maintain the clock in it even when the computer is not powered on.
