I feel very comfortable using vi viewer on UNIX for both viewing & editing file. I have UNIX on my PC but my laptop is from Apple. It'll be great for me if i could use vi viewer for mac. Please let me know if there any way to use vi viewer on mac.
Is there any way to use vi viewer for Mac?
Vim software are also available on Mac OS/X, although these version lag behind Unix counterparts since most of these Vim versions are produced by a community of Mac enthusiasts.
There are currently two best options that work on Mac OS/X Panther and above:
The first one is Cocoa or alternatively known as MacVim, this vim program is actively developed and regularly updated, it behaves like a Mac software and many individuals prefer this one since it has a more GUI feel to it and has a 32/64 bit version for Mac OS/X 10.6 Snow Leopard and above. MacVim can be downloaded at https://github.com/macvim-dev/macvim/ new updates are posted here and you can even signup for a mailing list for bugs and newer updates
The second is Carbon, an older Mac OS/X vim software that behaves more like vim on Unix/Linux system, it has a classic feel but updates to this software is not supported anymore.
The most recent binaries for Carbon can be downloaded at Sourceforge.
