Is there an effective Mac Address scanning software?

Hallo TechGurus!

I have been mourning the loss of my laptop to robbers and I was wondering whether it is possible to trace it and identify whoever stole it. Is there a Mac Address scanning software that I can just run online to know if there is anyone using the laptop and possibly get a notification? What I am asking here is whether I can use Mac Address scanning software to trace my laptop and know where it is being used?

Is there an effective Mac Address scanning software?

Hello,

Locating a thief using a .Mac address is not possible online unless the thief gets on the same LAN as the one you are using i.e. A college/university where you will need to provide the  .Mac address to the network administrator to detect any activity on the network so that when the student  logs on to the network with the stolen laptop he/she will be detected be the network administrator.
