Hi,
I am a Linux user, my desktop is "Ubuntu 10.04".
I have downloaded and installed, “Tropical” theme from here.
All the changes are fine, but the background and Login screen is not updated.
Any idea why? Am I missing something ?
Thanks.
Ubuntu 10.04 Theme not properly working.
When you apply any theme, it is only applicable to the user who installed it(obvious, because it’s a multi user system). All the users may want their own themes, wall papers blah blah., and they may also not like the login screen!
So if you wish to alter the login background, you have to do it from “gdm”. The theme also should be installed, system wide (available under /usr/share/themes).
Open up a terminal-
gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties

Ubuntu 10.04 Theme not properly working.
Thanks very much for the reply. Now I understand why it didn’t work. Anyway, after running the command the theme problem is gone. But I see the universal accessibility widget, in the top panel. Its annoying.
How do I remove it?
Ubuntu 10.04 Theme not properly working.
1. Go to Control Centre> Keyboard > Accessibility tab.
2. Turn of the Universal Accessibility features.
Anyway if you are using Compiz, you can reset the widget settings. In case you want to start over, you have an option of resetting everything.
Unity –reset

Thanks, but doing a little experiment on my own caused another irritation.
The shutdown, restart and log off buttons are gone. I can add them separately, but they are not acting like the original one's . What's that? And yes, I am using gnome not unity.

Hmm, an old pal of mine had the same kind of problem. It’s the mysterious, “Indicator Applet Session” you want to add. Thought the name is not much explanatory.
