If you ready to use Ubuntu first you need to know what Ubuntu is capable of and how it works. Ubuntu will release all its releases in the month of April and in October. If you want to use the Ubuntu in your laptop just check the system requirements of Ubuntu 11.10 and Ubuntu 12.04. Both should be good enough for you to work.
But my suggestion is for you to go with Ubuntu 11.10 as it is quite bug free and may suit your configuration. It supports all the features as in 12.04 even the look is also similar to 12.04. As you are saying you have 2 GB of RAM then its better to use 11.10 as your OS rather 12.04.
Thanks.
Your laptop’s installed RAM as well as the video card should be enough to run the latest version of Ubuntu. The latest version is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and it requires at least 1 GHz or higher processor, 1.5 GB RAM, and 7 GB free space. Since you have 2 GB RAM, it’s more than enough to run the operating system.
Download the latest version from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Desktop Download. When downloading, make sure you select the 32-bit version which you can select right above the download button. You can’t select the 64-bit unless your laptop is 64-bit aside from the fact that it requires more RAM than what your laptop can offer.
This version of the Ubuntu operating system for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Core, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and Ubuntu Kylin will be supported for about 5 years. The rest of the flavours will be supported for only 3 years. The download is an ISO image and around 970 MB so make sure to have room for it when you download it.
