I cannot change my desktop wallpaper. When I go to desktop properties to change my wallpaper and choose my preferred picture, then click Apply and hit the OK button, the changes will not take effect. There are no error messages or any dialog box appearing on my screen, it just didn’t change anything.
I am running Windows XP, What will I do? Need help please.

This is because your computer policy is preventing users to use this feature or maybe because your computer is infected with spyware or there is a corruption with your registry. To resolve the issue, you need to familiarize yourself with Windows Registry. Editing this incorrectly may cause serious problem to your computer system.
Steps to follow:
1. Click Start>Run then type regedit and press enter key.
2. The Registry Editor box will appear. Locate and expand this ”HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
3. Under the System folder, delete the following value:
NoDispAppearancePage
NoDispCPL
NoDispBackgroundPage
NoDispScrSavPage
NoDispSettingsPage
Wallpaper *
Delete all the value that contains the word wallpaper. And then close the Registry Editor window then try to change your desktop wallpaper again. If you successfully changed it, then the issue has been resolved. Otherwise, continue with the steps below.
1. Click Start>Run then type regedit and press enter key.
2. The Registry Editor box will appear. Locate and expand this
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
3. If you cannot find the System folder, ensure that you have completed the above steps by repeating them. If there is a System folder, delete the following value:
NoDispAppearancePage
NoDispCPL
NoDispBackgroundPage
NoDispScrSavPage
NoDispSettingsPage
This should resolve the issue and you can try changing the desktop wallpaper again.
