Unable to install ComboFix: PC has Virut Virus

When trying to install ComboFix Anti-Spyware, I get the following popup alert message:

!! ALERT !! It is NOT SAFE to continue.

The contents of the ComboFix package has been compromised.

Please download a fresh copy from:

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

NOTE: You may be infected with a patching virus 'Virut'

 

I have tried to re-download and installed ComboFix but it doesn’t help. I have not found anything that will help me find 'Virut' and how to clean it. I tried going to the site where I can download a fresh copy of ComboFix and followed all the instructions given but after downloading and trying to install it again, the same error incurs. What could this be? Am I infected with a spyware? What should I do?

Unable to install ComboFix: PC has Virut Virus

Hi,

Virut is a program that integrates itself secretly in a program or on data files. It is a backdoor type of virus (malware) that spreads automatically into the files each time we run the host program.  To get rid of virut, you may download the Win32/Virut Remover.  Just download the two required files and run the executable.  Make sure though that when you run the remover, you must have the administrator rights and you must save the rmvirut.nt into the folder where rmvirut.exe is also saved. Once you are done with the healing process, you need to run the AVG Complete Test to make sure that you no longer have any virus infecting your computer.  Also, I would recommend that you run your anti-virus at least once a week to check your computer for any infections, and of course to have these infections removed immediately.  To download the Win32/Virut Remover 1.2.0.715 please click on http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Win32-Virut-Remover.shtml.
