I am getting the following error while trying to update virtual box on my windows 7 (64-bit). What does it mean and how can I resolve this error?

Windows update standalone Installer The update is not applicable to your computer.

The update is not applicable to your computer

When installing or updating it, you need to ensure that your copy of Windows 7 is genuine and already activated because the update requires to validate your copy of Windows. If its not genuine, you will not be able to run the update.

Also, the Windows Update Standalone Installer utilizes the Windows Update Agent API to perform the update. And the packages have a .msu extension. And this is connected with the Windows Update Standalone Installer. Run the Windows Update first to ensure that this .msu file is not missing. Simply go to Start and Control Panel and then run Windows Update or use Belarc Advisor to install any missing updates.

Hi Tammy

Don't worry,  the problem is simple.But critical and follow the direction below to get results.

Firstly go to bugtracker and get ticket there.They can solve your problem online.Second one is totally removal of temporary updating file history from the windows.Type in start search menu"cmd" and hit enter.

1. Stop the automatic updates client component service (type net stop wuauserv in Command Prompt);

2. From explorer navigate to the C:windowsSoftwareDistributionDownload folder delete all files & folders;

3. Restart the automatic updates service (type net start wuauserv in Command Prompt);

4. Re-Run Windows Update.
