I'm trying to install Windows 8 on my old desktop that has an Intel D 845 motherboard, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD and 1 GB Video card.  I'm having the error message "Update Display Driver".  I installed the updated Intel D 845 motherboard driver but I'm still having an error.  Please help.

Hi Doriswneil,

Regarding the error message you're getting with windows 8 desktop. You will have to download the specific driver of the video card (1 GB) you are using. Since you are using a dedicated video card for your desktop. It needs the driver of the video card to function properly and not only the driver for your motherboard.

Hi there Doriswneil,

Starting the update with the motherboard drivers is always a good thing to do. However, your Windows are asking you to update the drivers of your graphic card. Since you haven't said what graphic card you are using I can't provide you a link to a proper drivers, but you will most likely find them at your graphic card manufacturer's web page.

You mentioned your computer is quite old, so there may be a chance your graphic card is not compatible with the new OS. Minimum requirements for Windows 8 includes Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver so make sure you meet that requirement.

Hi,

You don't have to update your Motherboard, the only thing that you need to upload is your video card. Check if its an AMD or NVIDIA video card and go here: http://www.amd.com/en and http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html respectively. If you want to know your graphics driver, you have to go start > run > key in 'dxdiag' without ' ' ' and then check its display tab for the hardware for your video card.
